KernelCare warning messages that could be safely ignored

Issue

The following notice messages could be shown in KernelCare/system logs:

1) "kcare: file /etc/sysconfig/kcare/sysctl.conf does not exist or has no read access."

2) "kcare: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel. kcare: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel."

3) “kcare[XXXXX]: Prefix `` is not in expected one 12h 24h 48h test.”

any server with KernelCare running

Solution

1) You can safely ignore these messages – or you can add into your config file /etc/sysconfig/kcare/kcare.conf the following setting to ignore these notifications:

LOAD_KCARE_SYSCTL = false

Cause

1) The mentioned file should exist only for CentOS servers with KernelCare extra patches activated.
This is only a notification message, not an error. By default, debug mode is enabled for KernelCare logging, and LOAD_KCARE_SYSCTL option is enabled by default. But if your server is not CentOS with extra KernelCare patches, then it's normal that the file /etc/sysconfig/kcare/sysctl.conf doesn't exist.

2) It means that the method that was used to sign kcare module was not detected properly by your kernel, but this doesn't affect your kernel or KernelCare.

3) It’s debugging messages and it’s safe to ignore them.
