KernelCare is a service that provides important updates for your running kernel, removing the need to reboot your server. There is no need to reboot the server after KernelCare installation.
Q: Which kernels does KernelCare support?
KernelCare supports CentOS and RHEL 5, 6 and 7, CloudLinux 6 and 7, OpenVZ, Virtuozzo, PCS, Ubuntu 14.04 & 14.04.1 as well as Debian 6, 7 and 8 for x86_64 unmodified kernels. You can find complete list, as well as patches available for each kernel here: http://patches.kernelcare.com/
Q: Should I continue updating my OS as before?
Yes. KernelCare will provide important updates for your kernel, but you still need to continue to update your userland applications.
Q: What if my kernel is not supported?
If your kernel is not supported, KernelCare will detect it and will do nothing. There is no danger (and no benefit) of running KernelCare on unsupported kernels. KernelCare will provide a message "Unsupported Kernel" when it doesn't know anything about the particular kernel.
Q: Will it work with 3rd party drivers?
Yes, KernelCare will work with 3rd party drivers. The drivers itself will not be updated.
Q: How does KernelCare work with Satellite & Satellite proxies
KernelCare works independently & doesn't interfere with Satellite & Satellite proxies. KernelCare will automatically detect & patch the running kernel with all the security patches from the latest kernel version, while kernel updates in form of RPM will continue to be installed as before -- but will not require a reboot.
